CNN —Many adults heard the phrase “Robux” for the first time last holiday season when the virtual currency of gaming platform Roblox landed on the top of most wish lists. And it will have to prove to Wall Street there’s more growth up ahead. In its fourth quarter of 2023, Roblox revenue was $750 million, up 30% year-over-year – but had a net loss of $323.7 million. Like Fortnite, Roblox is also moving ahead with a“payout to creators” business model. “It’s clear that [Roblox] intends to go after younger gamers in 2024 and 2025,” Ward said.

Chains owned by publicly traded restaurant companies accounted for half of the top 10 fastest-growing retail brands in the U.S. last year, according to a new Yelp report. Of the 50 fastest-growing chains in Yelp's report, 35 were restaurant brands. Jack in the Box, First Watch and Dutch Bros were among the public restaurant chains included in the report, but they didn't crack the top 10. Popeyes' higher sales have encouraged franchisees to open more locations and led new operators to join the brand, Restaurant Brands executives have previously said. In 2023, Popeyes surpassed KFC as the second-most popular chicken chain in the U.S. by sales, trailing only Chick-fil-A.

Bike lanes are good for business
  + stars: | 2024-03-07 | by ( Adam Rogers | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +13 min
Freaked-out business owners have been fighting bike lanes coast to coast, in cities from San Diego to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Rowe compared sales taxes in these “Neighborhood Business Districts” with those in similar districts in the city that didn’t get bike lanes. In one NBD, which replaced car lanes and three parking spots with two bike lanes, sales closely tracked those in the bike-less areas, both in peaks and troughs. Sometimes nothing changed, but more often the areas near bike lanes wound up with more employees and more revenue. It’s the new normal.” All the data in the world may prove that bike lanes are good for business.

The $7 billion healthcare startup Ro, which has been prescribing brand-name weight-loss shots since January 2023, now offers compounded semaglutide to patients enrolled in its weight-management program. Nonetheless, Ro is the first prominent healthcare company to effectively endorse compounded semaglutide by prescribing it. A poor-quality compounded drug might simply be a dud and a waste of money. But while compounding pharmacies are subject to FDA and state regulations, states are the main regulators, and their oversight is patchy. Rome CNN —Mass tourism has turned the Italian city of Florence into a “prostitute,” the director of Galleria dell’Accademia has said, sparking anger and calls for her to step down. Florence mayor Dario Nardella told Florence City Council on Monday that the city deserved respect and that tourism employs thousands of people. With the Academy, for example, we have tried to enhance every extraordinary part of it,” she said in the museum statement sent to CNN Tuesday. Italy’s culture minister Sangiuliano said his ministry would look further into the matter, but called Hollberg’s words “serious and offensive” in nature. “According to the director of the museum, therefore, Florentines are the children of a prostitute and the tourists are the clients of a prostitute?

CNN —As prescriptions for popular weight loss drugs have soared, the class of medications known as GLP-1 agonists is changing the way people think about how to lose weight. Boyarsky Pratt said about 35% of Knownwell's patients come for primary care, while the rest see the company's providers for their metabolic health. They can prescribe GLP-1 drugs, but they're just one tool the company uses to treat obesity, Boyarsky Pratt said. It's also planning to partner with more health systems to help them expand access to weight care. It partners with one large system in Massachusetts now, but Boyarsky Pratt declined to disclose which one. "The data shows that the earlier patients get into a comprehensive treatment, the better for the long-term course of the disease," Boyarsky Pratt said.

New York CNN —Just a few years ago, Toys R Us was on its way to the retail graveyard after going out of business. Now, it’s coming to America’s biggest mall, just in time for countdown to Christmas. Christina started taking Wegovy in September 2021 after getting a prescription through Calibrate, a startup that promises science-backed help with weight loss. She never received medication through Calibrate again, and she's since gained back all the weight she lost. A former employee on Calibrate's clinical team said the startup allocated fewer doctors to second-year patients because those patients historically required less help from Calibrate.
